Health minister not fully aware of Rabies epidemic in Bali

New health Minister, Mrs Endang Rahayu, seemed not knowing rabies effect that has down into dogs elimination in Bali, were saying that she receive the report that Bali is free from the epidemic though the media reported that this epidemic has reach high numbers of victims due to rabies, in Bali island. Mrs Endang, who has just installed as minister of health recently in October 2009 promised that she will ask to the local authority for this issue, especially why the epidemic in Bali is reported free from rabies case.

In responses to this decease, the minister stated that there are various programs can be done and starting from vaccination to the animals carrying rabies deceases or eliminating all wild dogs and cats on the street. So far dog’s population is the highest in Bali that reach up to 600,000 dogs, where one infected dog can become an effective media to spread the rabies to all these dogs in few weeks or months. Tourism industry in Bali is not affected due to this case since no tourist reported injured due to this rabies epidemic.
